Windows Vista
January 30th 2007 05:49
How sad is that, this is the most interesting thing I can think of to talk about
Yes, Windows Vista was released today, and, I was in a shopping plaza earlier today.
Every electronics store I passed, had no crowds of people excitedly buying Windows Vista. Is it that no-one is excited??
Lets have a look at its pros and cons
Pro
*Very nice looking graphics - ie 3d desktop
*Smart folders, virtual folders and gadgets
Con
*The 3d desktop drains system resources like, well, an open drain (even if you switch it to 2d mode, it merely runs 2d graphics still through the 3d mode)
*Has very few (if any) features unavailable on Windows XP/Linux with Google Desktop, or Mac OS X.4
*You need a very good computer to run it, ie 1 gb of ram
*Microsoft has it's own, very bad antivirus, which cannot be switched off and thus hinders and 3rd party antivirus programs.
There's gotta be some good points to it
It has speech recognition software, but then again that comes with Mac 0S X Leopard (the one being released later this year)
Anyway, my point is that this operating system will be even more fragile slow and frustrating than XP, and that no-one should buy it without first considering some alternatives. Ie
Staying with XP and using Google Desktop - Cheaper, uses less resources
The Apple Alternative - Uses less resources, safe from virus's, Can use windows programs
Linux Google Desktop - Free, uses less resouces, although incompatible with many programs
Peace
