The Simpsons - Punk Rockers?

May 22nd 2006 22:43
Due to my obsession with the Simpsons, I'm going to ramble about all the great bands that have appeared on the Simpsons.

First of all come the Ramones, for their cover of 'Happy Birthday' - sung to Mr Burns. Joey Ramone ends the song with "Go to Hell you old man", and , despite the short appearance they get their personality pretty well.

The Ramones
Best cover of Happy Birthday ever.

Aerosmith play some gigs at Moe's bar when he 'discovers' the Flaming Moe. Not Punk, certainly, but still a great band.

Spinal Tap are the first gig that Bart and Millhouse go to, while Homer sits outside singing 'He was a little spanish flea' (Just incase you didn't know - Spinal Tap start out as a ficticious band, created for a movie parody of heavy metal, but then the actors decided to form a band.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers star on a Krusty Comeback special, and play whilst krusty, wearing a dress and carrying a huge lollypop, says "Dancing around in their underwear - have they no shame?? I want a bigger lolly!!!" I'm deffiantely gettign the feeling the writers have good taste in music. (Arik Marshall was the guitarist at the time, during his short stint as a Chili Pepper)

The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Too bad they couldn't do the 'Socks on Cocks' routine on a cartoon

The Smashing Pumkins have one of the largest roles in an episode, when Homer tours with Llolapalooza. When Bart and Lisa see them play, Bart argues that It isn't hard to make teenagers depressed, to coutner Lisa's claim that "they're really getting through to the crowd"

The Simpsons also contains some good (but not Punk at all) bands such as
U2
The B-52's
Cypress Hill
Sting
Barry White
George Harrison
James Brown
Tito Puente

So in conclusion, the writers have great taste in music.

Peace

They're on a bonus track of a 'Rage Against the Machine' album, singing "How I Could Just Kill a Man" along with RATM, and they did a good job of it.

And no, I'm not going to that thing
