Silverchair

In the aim of getting some Australian bands on the site, I'll just pretend that Silverchair are Punk - they're not far off anyway.
For those who don't know the band, they formed in 1994, and after being given good publicity by JJJ their first album (Frogstomp) was instantly successful. It hit number 1 in Australia, and hit the top ten. Pretty impressive to say they were all 16 at the time.
Their next album, Freak was nothing special, it had a few good songs, such as 'Abuse Me' and 'Freak', but they were doing the HSC (final school exams) at the time, so fair's fair.
Neon Ballroom was their 3rd album, and man was it good. Anthem for the Year 2000 was a great song, and justification for having the band on a Punk blog. Anna's song shows the wide variety of musical styles that Silverchair could play, and infact, the whole album was much more diverse then either of their other ones. Their combination of electronic sounds with traditional orchestral and rock instruments was brilliant.
Their 4th and final (to date) album, Diorama was an impressive achievment, there was pretty much no shouting on the whole album. Tracks like 'Across the Night' and 'After all These Years' are beautiful, and well worth a listen to.
From here, the band announced they were, not exactly splitting up, but were on an "indefinate hiatus". However, they got back together for the Wave Aid Concert, and showed no signs of rustiness, sounding as great as ever. Later that year they announced that they were working on a 5th studio album, and started performing live to try out their new material.
All things considered, they're great musicians, originally referred to as Nirvarna wannabe's, but they clearly have their own style and abilities. Check out their site

I see your point, but alas, if I only wrote about original punk, I
