REVIEW: HORRORPOPS - KISS KISS KILL KILL (LINK)
May 29th 2008 22:59
Moving on from my rant yesterday I bought a new CD last night. The third album by Danish punk band Horrorpops.
The Album is called Kiss Kiss Kill Kill and I have to admit, I LOVE IT! Unlike most reveiews I read of their first two major released albums (Hell Yeah and Bring it on! <-- my favorite) I thought that Bring It On! was a far better album than the first Hell Yeah. But Kiss Kiss Kill Kill beats both.
One thing I love about this band is lead singer and upright bass player Patricia Day's voice. Its a classic punk rock voice but without the sreaming of say Courtney Love or (my personal favorite Brody Dalle). Patricia manages to sound like she belongs up there with the guys but still be "girly" and cute.
The ablum artwork is like the classic films of yesteryear. Black and white print with all but one of the song really sticking to the "movie" theme, being Boot2Boot. Apparently about riots in Copenhagen after the police destruction of a youth house in 2007...
The songs in general vary which is good for the listener, they still have there "creepy" horror songs (Hitchcock Starlet & Highway 55) but their style and guitarist Kim Nekroman (Patricia's hubby!) really makes the sound fuller and completes it well.
In all the album begs to be listened to from start to finish. Patricia's voice pulls you in an never lets go. 8/10
If you like Horrorpops then I'd also recommend you listen to Tiger Army, another fab rockabilly punk rock band!
Track listing:
1. "Thelma and Louise"
2. "MissFit"
3. "Boot2Boot"
4. "Heading for the Disco?"
5. "Kiss Kiss Kill Kill"
6. "Everything's everything"
7. "Hitchcock Starlet"
8. "Highway 55"
9. "HorrorBeach Pt. II"
10. "Copenhagen Refugee"
11. "Keep My Picture!"
12. "Private Hall of Shame"
