Ramones - The one that started it all

April 19th 2006 06:35
Hey everyone, this is the first post of a blog that hopes to spread the messege of punk music, and maybe also to bitch about some of the modern bands that call themselves punks. As you might have guessed, i love the old punk. I'm not claiming that Punk is Dead, but its certainly taken a few gunshots to the nads. Well, as this is the start of my blog, i'll write about a band that started it all - The Ramones. They are unique amongst punk rock bands in that they actually sound very similar to both rock music and punk. The Ramones have now sold more T-shirts and other paraphenalia then albums. You would have no idea how many people will wear a Ramones shirt and have no idea who they are. If any of these Ramones 'fans' heard the Ramones singing 'Havanna Affair' or 'Pinhead' I bet they'd be horrified.

Welcome fellow cyber traveller! I just read an article about the Sex Pistols in Rolling Stone today and how they were the true embodiment of punk. Also, Johnny Rotten is still a funny fuck, and who can forget Sid Vicious’ film clip for ‘My Way’. Gold!

You're stealing my bit!

Nah good luck, and I'll be sure to visit often.

Not sure I really like old school punk, but it has charm. Not that I'm really into pop-punk these days - i prefer the new stuff that Tom Delonge is doing (check out my review of Angels and Airwaves at
Music Times)

I like Iggy Pop. He was a weird looking guy, that's for sure!

I'm really looking foward to what you have to say, my knowledge of punk music is very limited-all i know is that if you call avril a punk your asking for trouble (i found that out the hard way)- it would be good to know how the whole thing started, and how you define punk.

Well I was planning to write a definition of punk this Friday, but with the magical arrival of Scott, I might not have to. Share your wisdom!

Thanks for your comments everyone.

Rolling Stones has the right of it, Sex Pistols were one of the greatest punk bands of all time.

I'll be sure to visit your page often too jimbo, ive listened to a bit of Angels and Airwaves; it sort of reminds me of blink 182, but with talent. Maybe thats just because the voices sound the same.

Iggy Pop is great

No, i wouldn't call avril lavine punk, she more comes under the pop rock catagory in my head. I'll think of a definition for punk for my post today, and do an overview of the history tomorrow
