JTV, OK GO and Celebrity Drug Disasters

September 10th 2006 03:58
For any non-Aussies, JJJ is Australia's only alternative radio station, although lately it has shifted towards hiphop... J Tv is the Tv version, surprisingly enough.

Well, yesterday was only the second time I've ever seen the show, it's pretty new. Well, after seeing an impressive filmclip by Thom Yorke, voted for by J TV viewers, I've decided that I like the tv show.

It's really a combination of a radio station, and a show like Rage (MTV, but without the commercialisation)

Anyway, go here to check it out. I'm not sure if you can get a video podcast of the show, but hopefully.

In other music video news, who here has seen or heard of the newest fad, dancing on treadmills? The band, OK Go seems to enjoy it, and have achived ridiculous amoutns of success for a song which basically contains the words 'here it goes again'

Anyhoo, check out the video clip on youtube
Or the bands website

While you're at Youtube, take a look at an interesting video clip by Celebrity Drug Disasters. The footage is entirely taken from porn videos, but it's actually tastefully done. The song's alright, too electronicy, but I heard about the band from FBI fm (electronic radio) so It's hardly a surprise

Peace

When the Tiger's Broke Free

Brilliant song by Pink Floyd, but unfortuantely, I think it was only ever released as a B side. It's not traditional Pink Floyd really, with a focus on the vocals, and only background use of instruments. ANyway, to a gander at the lyrics if you've never heard the song.

"It was just before dawn

"There are no genres"

August 21st 2006 05:04
Now, I'm not saying I believe this, but it was an interesting point that somebody raised a little while ago. Do genres of music really exist?

I mean, there's obviously some very obvious similarities between the songs that we describe as being in one genre, Jazz for example is usually syncopated, and every genre has its own favourite instruments, but the person that raised this point mentioned as an argument, that most bands are described as "a fusion of genre A and genre B"

I'm Not Dead II

August 2nd 2006 04:10
Screw it, a review of each track takes too much time. The whole album is a very impressive piece of work considering the source, If you like Pink already, you'll no doubt love this album, and even if you really despised her earlier songs, still have a listen to some of the songs I said were good yesterday, who knows what'll happen.

What else can I say about it. It wasn't as comemrcially successful as M!ssundaztood (2nd album) anyone like that album but not the new one? If so, why? It seems likely to overtake her 3rd album, 'Try This' in terms of sales

I'm not dead

By request of Irish (Leon) I got a copy of Pink's new album, I'm Not Dead and shall give it a good review. He descirbed it as packed with everything that punk stands for.

the first single, and first track, 'Stupid Girls' isn't filling me with confidence for the rest of the album, it's basically what I expect from Pink really - a nice voice, but annoying musical style, shit lyrics and nothing in the way of instruments. But then again, one should NEVER judge an album or band on their most popular song(s)

Best of Bowie

July 31st 2006 06:09
So I'm sitting here on my computer, looking down with a heart filled with sadness, at my 'Best of Bowie' cd case, wondering "where the hell is the cd?"

I mean, I can find disc two, but in this case, who cares. Sure, it has 'Under Pressure' ft Queen and 'Dancing in the Street' (I don't know who sung the original of that song, but this version is actually good) ft Mick Jagger (from the Rolling Stones), but compare that to the orgasmically good first cd

MTV Get Off the Air

July 21st 2006 08:57
First of all, looking at the 10 Google ads I can see, 2 are for country music, 2 for techno and 2 for hip hop. Nice and relevant. Whilst I'm on the topic, sorry everyone for the mass of ads that are around nowadays - it wasn't my idea.

That aside. Todays post is a song of the day type of thing,

New Albums

July 20th 2006 00:58
There's some pretty albums out recently. Decemberunderground by AFI is a good showcase of the band, full of loud and fast guitar and singing. Although, after a quick listen through I didn't find any particular songs that spoke to me, or were vastly different, but meh, I only listened to the first half of each song so who knows.

Vote for your Favourite Albums

July 13th 2006 02:15
As with yesterday's blog, the title pretty much speaks for itself. Vote (in a comment - there's no official voting thing) for your favourite albums. You have to number them from 1 - 10, with the 1st getting 10 points, the 2nd getting 9 and so on. The albums can be either LP's or EP's, but no singles please

The aim is to keep going until we have 50 different bands rated, but if that happens really quickly, then we'll keep going to 100.

Cops Make Good Targets

July 10th 2006 22:32
This album name, and occasional catch phrase is certainly the motto of many Punk bands, from (on the album) Police Truck by the Dead Kennedys, Police Story by Black Flag and Fuck Police Brutality by Anti Flag, all of which are criticisms of the prevelant racism and violence in the police systems, to Follow the Cops Back Home, which is more of an attack on the indiviual police by Placebo, there are a wide range of criticisms against, one of Punk's major enemies.

Got no clue what I'm talking about? Go HERE to listen to previews of each song from 'Cops Make Good Targets'
