Cool punk rock chicks!

June 6th 2008 04:45
OK. So by now you may have realized my slight obsession with The Distillers and the bands singer Brody Dalle (or Armstrong as she was known as).

Now if anything I just love her voice and how, when she was in The Distillers, the way she dressed. A few examples:

Now you know who she is, lol, Why do I like her? And no, its not in a sexual way, I just have a great deal of respect for her and I think her voice is fantastic. IT has that gravelly effect that I think Courtney Love and so many others try to achieve but fail so miserably.

Brody was married to Rancid's Tim Armstrong but divorced him in favor of Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, they have a little girl Camille.

Well really thats it. Try out the bands albums

Maiden Voyage (LINK)

October 4th 2007 12:54
Iron Maiden are set to hit Australian shores for the first time in 15 years! They will land here for only the fourth time in the bands 36 year history in early february, but dont expect getting a ticket will be all that easy as their show at the acer arena sold out in 25 minutes! Frontman Bruce Dickenson has announced only a matter of weeks ago that this will be "part two" of the "early days" tour and with plans to play a range of songs from the albums number of the beast, somewhere in time, and powerslave. Dickenson also stated not to expect any new songs, as the bands passion lies with their own classics such as wasted years, run to the hills and two minutes 'til midnight.

Tickets are still available for shows at the Burswood Dome in Perth (4th Feb, 2008) and the Brisbane Entertainment Centre (12th Feb, 2008

Parkway Drive take the High Road (LINK)

October 4th 2007 12:44
Parkway Drive's infamous killing with a smile earnt them a record deal with Epitaph records in California late last year, with the album hitting American shelves in November. This breakthrough for the metalcore five-some from sunny Byron Bay comes as no surprise, having formed in 2003 and making a huge splash nationwide with their 2004 release dont close your eyes. In many respects the boys from P.D are alot like the rest of us who have all grown up with an amazing respect for the Punk Rock label and for the bands with which the label is already renowned for, such as Bad Religion, NOFX, Social Distortion, converge, millencolin etc.

Parkway drive have secured their spot as the only Australian band on the American leg of the Vans Warped Tour. If by chance you are unable to make it to the tour, you can see parkway drive perform live at the UNSW Roundhouse in Sydney October 12/16

Stagger Lee and 20th Century Boy

February 26th 2007 07:12
There you go - two songs I was looking for most and I got a listen to them both recently.

Stagger Lee is by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and is one of the bands more upbeat songs. Strangely enough, even though the band is famous for their depressing songs, it's the slightly more cheerful songs that are the best. Stagger Lee is deffinately one of these

Filler

October 11th 2006 12:16
Yeah, not much of a post today. I'm too busy 'sudying' for my final exams. And by that I mean I was at a friend's house.

So what's new today?? I saw the movie Kenny. Now, I'd ever heard of it until today, and it's probably unheard of outside of Australia. Anyhoo, to say it's a mockumentary around a portaloo company, it's actually alright

P J Harvey

October 6th 2006 06:03
Polly Jean Harvey, accompanied at one stage by drummer Rob Ellis and bassist Steve Vaughan has been my newest musical 'discovery.' I wouldn't call her punk exactly, because whilst many of her songs have punk sounding influences, her influences are more encompassing, including blues, jazz and art-rock and bands such as jimi Hendrix, U2, The Pixies and Ennio Morriconi (He contributed numerous songs to the Kill Bill vol 1 and 2 soundtracks)

Pure Massacre

Today's post title was fairly aptly chosen (If I do say so myself)

Not only is it the Silverchair song that I'm listening to, but it's also a fair description of the martial arts camp I've been at since Friday evening.

Pub Rock

September 29th 2006 01:29
For those who aren't in the know, Pub Rock is a genre of Music, it's rocky, but much heavier and harder then most rock, with very little polish on it. It came about in the 70's, at about the same time that Punk Rock took off in a big way.

Whilst this was mostly an English penomenon, it also took off in Australia, mostly because we just need to follow some country. And we call New Zealander's sheep...
