Positive Punk

August 28th 2006 07:30
To tell you the truth, I've not been feeling top-top as of late, I mean, my life's going good, but the state of the world is shocking

but anyhoo, I won't bore you with my grievances, the point is that as a result of this, I started doing some random searching on wikipedia, and ending up find a subgenre of punk known, oddly enough, as Positive Punk. Ten points to anyone who guessed that it was Punk with a positive attitude.

Now, Punk's tend to have a fairly cynical outlook on life, basically extending the hippie motto of 'Dont trust anyone over thirty" to anyone over the age of 21. Which, for the most part seems to be accurate, and explains why Positive Punk failed to take off.

There's a site about the movement, some of which I bothered to read, but I dunno if it's worth reading every word.

Pos Punk emerged around the Batcave nightclub in London, yet quickly was swallowed up by the Goth movement that it helped create. Does this make sense to you? the second most depressed subculture in existance (behind only the emos) emerged as a result of fans of the complete opposite mentality.

Note to self, the Goths should have their own post, maybe tomorrow, or later if I feel the need to delve into the creepy and downright depressing sounds of Goth musicians. Maybe I could take a look at early Goth, when it was still influenced by pos Punk. Bands like Alien Sex Fiend, Sex Gang Children and Specimen.

But I'm rambling again. I guess the point of this post is
I dunno, maybe the world is salvagable

Privacy in Schools

August 24th 2006 02:33
Yeah, today's post is just one long bitch session at the Australian Public School System, so strap yourselves in.

Online privacy in schools is rapidly dissapearing, as school after school introduces a new policy towards internet access. In a few weeks, my school is introducing a login name and password for their students, hotmail and other such programs will be banned and the school email client will be the only usable one

Racist Radio

August 3rd 2006 08:42
I was recently contacted by Triple M (an Australian Radio station), and asked if I could have one post a week dedicated to their station.

In that vein, I present a follow up to last night’s program ‘The Spoonman’

Battle of the Cashed-up Cults

July 26th 2006 04:25
Before anyone can beat me to it, no, this post is hardly original. The Chaser program actually did this first.

The Chaser's two cults were 'Scientology' and 'Hillsong'

Well, I'm sure you all already knew that, but the Supreme Court finally pointed out to Bush that it violates, US and international law, as well as the Geneva Convention on Human Rights. The articles the US allegedly broke in Guantánamo Bay include:

(Article 13): "Prisoners of war must at all times be humanely treated

Privacy on Myspace

June 8th 2006 23:47
The National Security Agency in the Pentagon has thought of a great new way to catch scapegoat terrorists. That's right, mass searches of private details provided on sites such as Myspace.

So a friendly piece of advice, if myspace asks you for your religion, but 'conservative Christian', if it asks you for your hobbies, do not put 'Revolution' and if it asks you if you have a beard and wear a turban, ou might be safer to say no

Revolutions part 2

June 6th 2006 06:58
As Leon pointed out yesterday, I haven't mentioned punk enough lately. So I'll make up for it here if I have to start quoting the song 'Punk is Dead' by Crass

So, as I was saying yesterday, a revolution isn't all that hard to achieve, but the catch is, a violent revolution is the quickest and easiest way to overthrow a government. How can any Punk criticise a violent government and then support a violent revolution?

Revolution Betrayed

June 5th 2006 07:01
As much as it sounds like it, Revolution Betrayed isn't the name of an awesome band. Note to self, start a band, just so I can name it that. Anyhoo, Because I couldn't think of anything better to write about, and because I've spent the day listening to a lecturer who seemed to be plotting a 'coup d'etat' against the Australian government. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for coup d'etat, but this guy gave me the impression that he would be an even worse and more violent ruler then Howard.

So I dedicate this post to all the well meaning revolts that ended badly.

God is Dead

May 24th 2006 23:59
Yes, I'm getting off the topic of Punk, once again. Tomorrow I'll mention the word Punk at least 10 times to make up for it.

Nietzsche was a German philosopher alive from 1844 - 1900, and his most famous quote has to be 'God is Dead', it is also among his least understood quotes. He didn't literally mean that God was dead, but he was writing at a time when the unquestioning belief that God was the source of morality, stability and science, was being challenged, and that it what is dying - humanity's dependence upon God

Penis Envy

May 24th 2006 04:02
The name of an album by Crass, and one of Freud's weirder theories, Penis Envy surely deserves its own post.

Penis envy (according to Freud) occurs in girls at a very young age, when they develop sexual feelings towards their mother, but cannot act on them due to not having a Penis, however - she soon starts to blame her mother for this 'lack' and the sexual feelings shift towards her father, and then onto males in general. Does this describe you??? Be honest [ Click here to read more ]

Straight Edge

May 18th 2006 01:12
Straight Edge (sXe) is a sub culture of Punk, and for all its differences to standard Punk ideology, it also contains a large degree of similarity. As with yesterday's post, I don't know how I feel about my topic.

Straight Edgers believe in total abstinance from drugs (alcohol, tobacco or anything harder then those) some also refuse caffeine. Many also refuse to engage in what they refer as 'promiscuous sexual activity'. Now, you're probably thinking 'This doesn't sound like Punk at all'. You have a point, but

Christian Punk

Looking around the net, I had the most horrifying experience imaginable. That's right, I found a link to a 'Christian Punk' website.

This raised several questions in my mind.

Punk'd

May 4th 2006 04:48
For today, I'm going to spend my time bitching about one Aston Kutcher. For those who don't know, he has a tv show on MTV, where he plays mean practical jokes on celebreties.

First of all, to say that he has been dressed to look poor, he is richer then most of those that he pulls pranks against. So he can hardly claim that he is doing it out of any Punk, anti-capitalist feeling. Maybe if he wasn't making so much money, for himself and MTV I would be willing to forgive some of the cruel things he does.
