The Time Machine

January 26th 2007 22:56
Warning, not actually a punk post at all

How many of you have read The Time Machine, by H G Wells?

I think there's a movie by the same name, but it's terrible, don't even bother.

But the book, oh the book is good.

It's told in a sort of rambling way, much like this review, but there are some very good bits, the time traveler ends up millions of years into the future, when the working class have been forced further underground by the ruling class, and have eventually evolved into cave dwellers, able to see in the dark, but enraged by the sun. And basically enraged by everything.

By comparison, the Ruling Class has lived off the fruits of the workes labours for so long that they evolved into beautiful creates, but small, weak and generally hopeless. The tables finally turned at some stage, with the workers becoming considerably stronger, and eventually feeding off the richer upper class.

Anyway, it's a really interesting take on the Class War, if that's your button then I highly advise you to read this book.

Peace

Dead Poet's Society

... Is a surprisingly good movie.

I mean, when you have it described to you it sounds boring - a bunch of prep school students find a love of poetry and form a secret society dedicated to it.

HSC no 2

Please excuse my grammar, I used all my good typieness on my exam today.

Anyhoo, not much to report. I got a copy of 'The Cure' Greatest Hits dvd, basically all their filmclips, man, Robert Smith is really creepy. But cool nevertheless. Even if you can't get your hands on the dvd, find some way to see the filmclip to Spiderman, it's well worth it.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

Anyone seen this movie?? If not, you really should. Go to one of the crazy midnight screenings, where everyone cross-dresses and squirts water pistols at people. And if you know of a screening in or around Sydney, then let me know.

Punk Films

Yeah I know, crossovers never work, musicians should stay in music, and actors should stay away from it, but there have been some pretty cool movies made about the Punk Rock scene.

The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle, is a pretty good work from the Sex Pistols, mostly because it has alot of live performances by the band, and very little of the band members shittily attempting to act

Andy Warhol

August 10th 2006 07:46
Andy Warhol, possibly the most famous Pop Artist, was a man who became involved with a number of fringe bands, as well as popular one, and he displayed a punks attitude to some part of life.

Warhol was gay at a time when this was less acceptable, but was still extremely successful, partly due to peoples ignorance of his sexuality. Warhol designed cover art for the Velvet Underground, a band he greatly encouraged at the early stage of their career, and the Rolling Stones. He also knew Bob Dylan and John Lennon.

Punk Quizes

June 30th 2006 08:13
This first one is based around some apparently well known game, 6 degrees of seperation. 5 artists or other keywords are worked into a sentence and you have to guess the 6th.

This one is good for modern Punk fans - Me First And The Gimme Gimmes and Pennywise for example. I didn't have a go because I'd get an embaresingly low score

Emo Culture

May 31st 2006 03:45
As much as I dislike the Emo movement, I'll try to not be too biased against them.

To start with, I'll explain why I don't like the Emo culture (lots of generalisations ahead); It's glorification of suicide, in which it is turned into a fashion statement, is terrible. I'm not one of those who believes that suicide is sinful or immoral, its just that, like many things, Emo has taken their acceptence of suicide too far.

The Simpsons - Punk Rockers?

May 22nd 2006 22:43
Due to my obsession with the Simpsons, I'm going to ramble about all the great bands that have appeared on the Simpsons.

First of all come the Ramones, for their cover of 'Happy Birthday' - sung to Mr Burns. Joey Ramone ends the song with "Go to Hell you old man", and , despite the short appearance they get their personality pretty well.

Go here for a pretty good music quiz.

The creator doesn't seem to be particularly biased against or for any particular genre's, which is deffinately a plus. If you want a more biased quiz (that insults or compliments you, depending on your result), click on me.

Punk Art

May 5th 2006 07:04
As a counter-culture, Punk artworks were developed to challenged the preconceptions of many artists at the time, and, in more recent years, mainstream art has become surprisingly similar to Punk art, in form especially.

Punk art is divided into two catagories; the minimalistic and, well, the exact opposite
