P J Harvey

Polly Jean Harvey, accompanied at one stage by drummer Rob Ellis and bassist Steve Vaughan has been my newest musical 'discovery.' I wouldn't call her punk exactly, because whilst many of her songs have punk sounding influences, her influences are more encompassing, including blues, jazz and art-rock and bands such as jimi Hendrix, U2, The Pixies and Ennio Morriconi (He contributed numerous songs to the Kill Bill vol 1 and 2 soundtracks)
The Cd of her's I have been listening to is called 'Uh Huh Her' (released 2004), so if anyone wants to add something about any of her other albums, feel free to leave a comment.
Her music is, as I said earlier, influenced by Punk, or possibly similar to it by coincidence, but it contains many classic rock factors, and, whilst I can't notice the Jazz influence, the blues is their to see, albeit a much heavier style then traditional blues.
Anyhoo, judge for yourselves, don't take my word for it.
Her homepage can be found here, where you can hear samples of her music.
Peace

It's moody, it's uplifting, it's sonic waves as emotions and moreover it's raw and uncompromising without being violent.

Is it punk? Well, yes, if your idea of punk includes artists like Nick Cave and the Jesus Lizard (which it should). It's primal, skronking blues from a uniquely uncompromising female perspective: sexy and scary at the same time.
I haven't heard Un Huh Her yet but it's on my Xmas list. If you're not ready for Rid of Me though, I'd reccommend To Bring You My Love as your next step. It's still got the primal dirty blues feel of her earlier albums, but has a lot of diverse moods and sounds on it as well. Still, if you like PJ Harvey, you can't go wrong with any of her stuff really.
