Read About It - Midnight Oil
September 4th 2006 07:58
"The rich get richer, the poor get the picture
The bombs never hit you when you're down so low
Some got pollution, some revolution
There must be some solution but I just don't know
The bosses want decisions, the workers need ambitions
There won't be no collisions when they move so slow
Nothing ever happens, nothing really matters
No one ever tells me so what am I to know
You wouldn't read about it, read about it
Just another incredible scene, there's no doubt about it
Hammer and the sickle, the news is at a trickle
The commissars are fickle but the stockpile grows
Bombers keep acoming, engines softly humming
The stars and stripes are running for their own big show
Another little flare up, storm brewed in a tea cup
Imagine any mix up and the lot would go
Nothing ever happens...
You wouldn't read about it, read about it
One unjust ridiculous steal, ain't no doubt about it
You wouldn't read about it, read about it
Just another particular deal, there's no doubt about it"

I don't have a clue how many of you know who Midnight Oil are, they're famous as far as Australian bands go, but I doubt they were successful in abroad.
Well, Peter Garret, the 'best' dancer in existance was the lead singer of the band, before he left to pursue a career in politics (The band temporarily reformed for the Australian Wave Aid concert, at which they were my favourite band alongside Silverchair)
But yeah, I know that sounds almost as bad as say, Arnold Schwarzenegger becoming govenor of California. But when you look at the lyrics to the song above, it's fairly logical for him to become a politician. I just think it's a shame that he joined the labour party (slightly left wing) instead of the Greens, who share pretty much all their left wing views with him.
Anyhoo, you can hear the song here, and see the bands awesome dancing and fashion sense. Enjoy, and tell me what you think of the song and band
Peace

Some of the songs have fairly universal significance, but you have a point, most non Australians would have no clue what he's singing about in a fair few songs.
I'm with you on that, American tv just confuses me, I watched about 5 minutes of the emmies recently, I didn't udnerstand any of the jokes that people were making..
