Lou Reed

January 19th 2007 00:54
Hey everyone, I feel the need to brag. I'm going to see Lou Reed live in concert tonight. It should be awesome, although it's a pity i couldn't have seen him some years ago as part of Velvet Underground. Ahh well, I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Looking forward to reading about it ...

At U2s Zooropa tour (Adelaide circa 1999) Bono closed the show off with 'Satellite of Love ... ' ...

Scott,

It was ..

Bono? He can sing anyone like anyone ... He also did an Elvis Presley song (immediately preceding SOL) ... and he can sound like Lou Reed when he sings Reed and Presley when he sings Presley ...

Me? I don't know much about music other than that I love it ... and have relegated myself to an 'appreciator' ... When I go to a concert? I just watch blokes like The Edge play the guitar ... and it just blows me away ... All those sounds out of one guitar ... overlapping and intertwining like there were ten guitarists on stage? ... The opening (riff? ... to Whose Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses? ... that just blows me away every time I hear it ...

But Lou Reed's Satellite of Love ... the music? ... It just spirals upwards ... It's like onomatopoeic music to me ... I'm like on the notes, being carried way up into the sky to kiss that satellite ... that's the effect great music has on me ... I think visually ... I see music ... It's a bit like that Pearl Jam line ... "She dreams in colours, she dreams in red." ... Me? I see music ... don't just hear it ... it spirals and loops and dips and crests and tidal waves ... and sometimes ... when it's Lou Reed? ... well it just carries me up ... up .. up ... into the sky ... (and the lyrics to that song? ... Simplicity at it's most brilliantine ...

I envy you ... I'd love to be there .. I could do with a good dose of live music ... (my hand is sore and blistered and my CDs ... ? Love all none of them ... (have to borrow the fuckers from a library nowadays ... no Lou Reed ... No U2 ... but that's okay ... I've always liked Yanni and Nana Moskouri ***

Have a great night ...

David ...
