Greenday

All of my band reviews so far have been mostly positive. For a change I am writing about a band that I don't even know if I like. Hopefully by the end of writing this I will have made up my mind.
Their first two albums were full of raw energy, even if their lyrics lacked a bit in subtlety and meaning. They were on a small record, and, by all reports were concentrating on having a good time and making good music to mosh to, caring very little about the music. At this stage they were hardly Punk (maybe excellent Punk Pop or good Punk Rock) and they deffinately weren't commercial.
Their next album, Dookie (they wanted to call it Liquid Dookie, but their record company wouldn't let them), was released after the band imporved greatly as musicians, the lyrics are fair, and the music excellent. Chump and Basketcase are some of the better songs from the album.
I've only heard one song from their next album (Insomniac), and it is certainly good - similar in style to Dookie, but slightly heavier.
Nimrod came next, and this album was, in my opinion a great improvement over all their others. 'Good Ridance (time of your life)' showed the bands versatility, while 'Nice Guys Finish Last' and 'King for a Day' proved that the band had lost none of its Punk Rock edge.
Warning was a nice listen, I honestly do like the album, but it is not Punk at all, I'm afraid to say. The album is very much a move towards Pop and generic Rock.
Ironically, American Idiot was the first Greenday album to be dedicated mostly to politics (for which I should praise them) yet it was also when they started to sell out to MTV in a big way.
I've made up my mind, they're a good band to listen to, apparently a killer live performance and are probably doing some good spreading messeges of mistrust of the leadership of America, however, despite occasional chairty performances (Live 8 and the like) I find it hard to trust the band whilst they are being funded by MTV.
