God is Dead

Yes, I'm getting off the topic of Punk, once again. Tomorrow I'll mention the word Punk at least 10 times to make up for it.
Nietzsche was a German philosopher alive from 1844 - 1900, and his most famous quote has to be 'God is Dead', it is also among his least understood quotes. He didn't literally mean that God was dead, but he was writing at a time when the unquestioning belief that God was the source of morality, stability and science, was being challenged, and that it what is dying - humanity's dependence upon God.
Because of this quotes ability to piss off religious people, it has been taken up as a ctachphrase by grafiti artists and musical artists - although it seems that the metal genre is more into it then punk.
Nine Inch Nails have "Your God is dead, and no one cares" as the chorus of their song, Heresy, and the rest of the album embodies the Nihilism the Nietzsche promoted.
Other metal bands, such as Extreme, Sentenced and Carnivore used the God is Dead quote in similar contexts.
Another of Nietzsche's ideas was on how institutionalised religion had become, and this resonates well with many Punk Bands, who feel that any system of control over the masses is a bad one. Crass, Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag, Minor Threat all agree with this, and can be seen to be influenced by Nietzsche in one way or another. So this post does have a link to Punk, hooray!

Therefore, his writings can only be regarded as the nonsensical rantings of a madman.
To place faith in his warbles, or to justify them as works of art is clearly ridiculous. Today, he would be either cured of his disease or locked in an institution and heavily medicated.
He should have been put to death prior to ever picking up pen and paper.

And I just love it that, even in his 'deep psychosis' he could still completely understand people who believe as you do, understand you so deeply that he was able to predict exactly what you would say, before you were even born. He did not say that God is dead, but the words came from the lips of, a madman.
