God Fearing Man
October 15th 2006 23:40
Listen mister, brother, sister, family and friend,
I fear with each day pass, our time grows closer to the end.
Listen stranger, passer by and those I never knew,
There's not one day that you're living has been promised to
you.
And I am a God fearing man.
I'm a God, I'm a God fearing man.
I reach out, I reach out for my God's hands.
I am a God fearing man.
Listen mother, sister, brother, relatives and kin.
You want to know just where you're going,
You got to know where you've been.
And tell me what gives one the right to say their God is better
than anybody else.
Don't we all have a right to find a God for ourself.
I am a God fearing man.
I'm a God, a God fearing man.
I reach out for my, for my God's hands.
I am a God fearing man.
So when I rise with the morning sun I give thanks to my God for
the gift of another one.
Oh, when my day is over and complete I reach to my God to put me
back on my feet.
And I am a God fearing man.
I'm a God, a God fearing man.
I reach out for my, for my God's hands.
I am a God fearing man.
Yes I am.
God Fearing Man - Ben Harper
Now, I love Ben Harper's music; it's beautiful and rythmic, the end of the 2nd verse is especially nice.
But think about the phrase 'God fearing man/Christian' for a second.
I read alot of fantasy books, and one thing they all have, is an evil God whose worshippers only follow Him out of fear (and maybe desire for immortality and power) far be it from me to draw any comparisons though.
C'mon all you God fearing Christians, you are not dust beneath your Gods feet, you are not evil people destined to hell if not for Jesus's assistance, and most importantly, if some bully demands your worhip with the threat of an eternity of pain, you should really consider which is the worse torture; eternity in the fires of hell, or eternity with a "jealous God"
Man, I'm going to shut up before I offend too many people, my point is, Love whatever God(s) you believe in, don't fear them.
Peace

Think of it this way - how do you know someone loves you? Say, you have a girlfriend/wife/partner. How do you know they love you? Because they have a choice right? They could have chosen someone else - the guy down the road, any of the three billion other guys there are in this world. But they are with you. Of course, relationships are complex, so there are always complicating factors like obligation etc. But in the end, you know they love you because they have chosen you out of any number of people they could have chosen to love.
Love for God is similar. We've twisted the idea of hell so that it means eternity in fire and pain. But all hell is, is an existence without God. We don't know what that is like yet because God interacts in our daily lives whether or not we love him. But he has given us a choice - do we love him, or do we not? If we didn't have that choice, then we wouldn't be human - we would simply be mindless creations that have no real purpose. Because God has given us that choice, we have the opportunity to love him.

You serious about that whole hell thing??
Man, I've spent ages deciding what Uni to go to, now I have to decide between heaven and hell??
I have no idea which to pick, heaven has the drawcard of a divine being, but I don't think I'd get on well with Him to be honest. It could be that both Him and I are a tad egocentric. I could never give my abject worship to any being, and he could never accept a relationship where both are equal.
I wonder which has the better people, Hell would have most rock and punk musicians, heaven would have Hitler, George Bush (when he dies) and all the popes - they all loved God.
