Global Warming

January 31st 2007 23:25
Or None Like it Hot!!!

Global Warming may just be an excuse to argue about God in America, and some of you in the UK are probably secretly hoping it will happen

but in Australia it's actually really important. Global warming is going to raise the temperature and sea level whilst lowering rainfall.

Australia is already hot enough, we built all our capital cities on the coast and we barely get rainfall as it is.

Although, there are people in worse situations. The Glaciers of Greenland have almost reached the point of no return as far as melting is concerned, Holland will soon lose the majority of its territory to the ocean, and Venice, oh you better believe you're fucked.

And it seems that large scale solutions to the problem are a long way off. The big Businesses care nothing for the environment, only profits. So it's up to us as consumers to change things.

First thing I want to say - if you live in the City, you have no damn excuse for driving a 4wd, for that price you could get a nice hybrid (petrol electric) car that uses a quarter the petrol. Or if you're cheap just buy a small car.

Secondly, don't drive everywhere. Don't be lazy, walk to the local shops, or buy a bike and ride there.

What else is there?? It'd be impossible to cover everything, because we simply need to cut down on our energy use in all areas, don't leave the air conditioner or heater running unless you really need to, install a solar panel on top of your house, spend that little bit extra to get a fridge that uses less energy, anything you can.

Oh, and go see 'An Inconvenient truth' by Al Gore

peace

I hear you buddy I hear you! Im an auzzie too, brought up in the bush, and Im constantly griping about little wussy whiny babies that dont want to drink recycled water when we're already running out!
Humanity cannot fix global warming, and I'll tell you why. Concrete is the cause. All of our energy use and pollution aint helping, but it is the excess of concrete and tarmac that is actually heating the earth like a massive oven, slowly cooking the crust and not allowing the heat to escape. This is true, and maybe another 50 years down the track, when its far too late, we will realize it.
I have another theory for global warming too. Never underestimate the earth. To quote jurassic park(novel not movie) " She breathes on a scale we cannot imagine" it would be absolutely nothing for the earth to change her rythyms and shake us off like parasites.
Ive always found the slogan 'save the Earth' extremely funny, shes not in any danger. The slogan should be ' preserve the environment that supports US!'
