English folk singer, working class man and politcal protestor, Billy Bragg, surely deserves a mention.
'New England' is one of his greatest songs, fast paced and rythmic, with great lyrics concerning the state of England at the time. Deffinately give that a listen.
He's a bit of a socialist, with songs like 'The Red Flag' and 'There is Power in a Union', and shows one of his main influences through the song 'I Dreamed I Saw Phil Ochs Last Night' (For those who don't know, Phil Ochs is another awesome Folk Singer) and he seems to me, to be like Bob Dylan, just less well known.
Northern Industrial Town is a cool song, but if you aren't English, or at least haven't been to England, you probably won't like it that much.
