Best of '06

January 12th 2007 06:54
That's pretty generous, but ocId=1000033161" target="_blank">here is the list of top 100 best selling albums of 2006 according to amazon.

It's pretty shocking some of the stuff on here.

The high school musical soundtrack beat the Chili Peppers newest release, the Beatles best of didn't even make the top 50, Shakira beat the Flaming Lips. Goo Goo Dolls and Weird Al were all the way up in the 70's.

It seems to me that all the great bands of the 60's through to, well, the dissolving of Nirvana, have been slowly dwindling, with James Browns death recently being a prime example. Yet nothing new and good seems to be taking over.

Machine Gun Fellatio were a genuinely good band, combining rock and electric influences into something beautiful, but they vanished after their second album.

The 50's had the birth of Rock
The 60's had Rock's pinacle and the birth of Hippies
70's saw saw the hippie movement expand, and then be replaced by punk and metal
80's Punk was still going strong in many cases, and new wave bands were pretty good too
90's Alternative reigned supreme
00's We're in the 7th year and we are the first decade not to have our own style of music.

Peace
