Walk on the Wild Side

January 2nd 2007 01:16
"Holly came from Miami, F.L.A.
Hitch-hiked her way across the USA
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, Hey babe
Take a walk on the wild side
Hey honey
Take a walk on the wild side

Candy came from out on the Island
In the backroom she was everybody's darlin'
But she never lost her head
Even when she was giving head
She says, Hey babe
Take a walk on the wild side
I Said, Hey baby
Take a walk on the wild side
And the coloured girls go
doo do doo do doo do do doo..

Little Joe never once gave it away

Everybody had to pay and pay
A hustle here and a hustle there
New York City's the place where they say,
Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
I said, Hey Joe
Take a walk on the wild side

Sugar Plum Fairy came and hit the streets
Lookin' for soul food and a place to eat
Went to the Apollo
You should've seen em go go go
They said, Hey shuga Take a walk on the wild side
I Said, Hey babe
Take a walk on the wild side
All right, huh

Jackie is just speeding away
Thought she was James Dean for a day
Then I guess she had to crash
Valium would have helped that bash
Said, Hey babe,
Take a walk on the wild side
I said, Hey honey,
Take a walk on the wild side
and the coloured girls say,
doo do doo do doo do do doo"

Walk on the Wild Side - Lou Reed

One of Lou Reed's best songs, because of how brilliantly it represents the underground music scene in America at the time. It's sung beautifully and with great passion.

Have a listen.

Twisted Sister

Have recently released an album called "A Twisted Christmas"

A big thank you to the band - now we can get into the Christmas spirit without being annoyed by crappy songs.

Twisted Sister

I have recently experienced the awesomeness that is Twisted Sister, a New York Heavy metal band, around from 1973 - 1987 and 1997 onwards.

They were originally more of a Glam Rock band, influenced by David Bowie and the like, but soon moved towards the heavy metal end of things, citing all the typical metal bands AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Alice Cooper. Well, not all obviously, but lots of good ones.

Crosby, Stills and Nash

How to describe this band? Unfortunately, the first word that springs to mind is 'Arrogant', because in some random documentary I saw about the band, the lead signer seemed pretty impressed with himself. However, i'd been on a long car drive and was in some chaddy motel, so maybe I was just a tad grumpy, I dunno.

regardless, the band is undoubtably highly talented and, whilst wikipedia refers to them as folk rock/rock, that isn't to say that they are the trashy folk music that you hear on the radio, they were very popular in the 60's Woodstock scene, which has to count for something.

Style Council

If you can't guess from the name, the Style Council are New Wave, and feature the singer from 'The Jam' Paul Weller.

The band really does sound like the Jam, especially when you compare "Walls Come Tumbling Down' by the Style Council to 'Going Underground' or 'Town Called Malice' by the Jam.

Sandi Thom

Yesterday I mentioned Live Aid, and a singer who very much wishes to be back in that era, and during the years when Woodstock wasn't commercialised is Sandi Thom. Her album, Smile, it Confuses People is full of her desire to have lived back during the Hippie or Punk days.

I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair

An uncle of mine introduced me to this Irish hard rock band a little while ago, and I've gotta say I'm pretty impressed with his taste.

Their music has influences of folk music, and yet is also largely heavy rock verging on metal at times. I dunno, sorta think Led Zeppellin, though admittedly not quite as good. Hey, why haven't I mentioned Led Zeppellin before in this blog??

Incubus

So my internet is broken, infact I think a viking must've come in and started hacking the modem to pieces. I'm at the house of my brother and his girlfriend, listening to Incubus - no idea which album, but it's the one where 'they sound sorta like the chili peppers'

The album is really good, although, that said, I saw a bit of their 'Live at Red Rocks' dvd concert and that was much more impressive then the album. But then again, if a bands studio work is better then their live performances.

So the duo were born in Mexico, but have since moved to Ireland.

They were originally part of the heavy metal band, "Tierra Acida" and I'm deffinately trying to get a hold of the bands music - I would love to see how the combination of spanish gutar and metal works. Since then, they have created their own style, similar to Traditional Spanish guitar, but faster and with drumming on their guitars whilst strumming and picking.

Gorillaz

Gorillaz band members, 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel

Man, I really love these guys. Not just because they combined hip hop with electronica, two genres I’m not fussed by, and actually got good music out of it. I also love them because, despite there being 4 cartoon members in the band, there are only 2 people behind them, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett. These 2 have taken their anonymity to such an extent that they no longer even appear on stage for live performances, which obviously would be terrible if all bands did it, or if it was done badly, but the Gorillaz do it brilliantly.
