Arias, Rove and Children of Men
October 31st 2006 10:47
That's right, today you get a review of some trashy tv. Cos I'm too lazy to do the follow up to the last post.
Anyway, the Australian recording industry awards, ARIAs were given out recently. Now, being in the room when they were on, I suffered seeing Wolfmother being congratulated for their butchery of the english language
"She's a woman, ya know what I mean?"
yes, I do know what a woman is, the members of wolfmother will infact never know this however, as whenever they open their mouths they girls start a runnin (away.)
That ugly business aside, presenting the ARIA's was Rove McManus, which I probably spelled incorrectly. For those of you not from Australia, Rove is on a tv show called Rove Live, basically him interviewing celebreties and musicians. He does get some pretty good people on the show, but he seems just to accept everyone on there - people from big brother and the like. However, he said somethig yesterday that made me think.
He was talking about the fact that basically no songs nowadays touch politics, bringing up old classics such as Simple Minds, Midnight Oil and the Live Aid concert.
However, it seems that with the near total destruction of music as a meaningful art form, film is becoming increasingly valid a media. There have been a wide range of dystopia films released lately.
V For Vendetta has to be one of the best, and Children of Men, which I saw today, is also pretty damn good.
What's my point? you ask... I don't even know, but we need these movies,, and songs, and other forms of media to challenge the relentless propoganda churned out by the government. If you're in a band, don't be afraid to put your political views in your music, or into anything you do.
Peace
