Arcade Fire

Note: I know the last two posts would have made more sense in the other order, but meh.
Now, onto the Canadian indie rock ground known as Arcade Fire - pretty cool name by the way. I first heard about this band when I looked up lyrics for 'five years' by David Bowie, and saw someone credit it to this band. They have done a cover of the song, which starts out mediocre but by the end has become pretty good - though nothing on the Bowie or Placebo versions still.
Another cover by the band, 'This Must be the Place' suffers from a pretty dodgy recording, as it is live, and methinks bootlegged, but as far as the song goes, they covered it fairly well, worth a listen if you can get your hands on it.
On to their own songs now. They only have one album, Funeral, but they've only been round a couple of years and have a second in the works.
4 songs from the album;
"Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)"
"Neighborhood #2 (Laika)"
"Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)"
"Neighborhood #4 (7 Kettles)"
Are pretty interesting. I'm still trying to find the link between these four, but oh well. Laika is a pretty good song, it's got some awesome violin playing in there, interesting vocals (in a good way that is) and simple but effective guitar and drum work.
Rebellion (Lies) is a good song, reminds me of Franz Ferdinand for some reason (the band, not the guy that got shot)
For once, the band's longest song (Vampire Forest Fire) is not good. Apologies to anyone who likes it, but honestly, the only reason it's so long is because they sing too slowly. It's a pretty boring song, despite having the word vampire in its title. All it needs now is an explosion. Man, I hope you all watch Futurama or that joke's gonna fall flat on its face.
Anyhoo, that's all from me, well, I'll give a summary of the bad; Good indie rock, can get poppy at times but some of their sogns are worth a listen, their Talking Heads influence is very obvious, so if you like them, you'll probably like these guys. Oh, I almost forgot, they did a cover of Joy Division's 'Love will tear us apart', which was good, though that could mostly be the u2 bit.
