Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol, possibly the most famous Pop Artist, was a man who became involved with a number of fringe bands, as well as popular one, and he displayed a punks attitude to some part of life.
Warhol was gay at a time when this was less acceptable, but was still extremely successful, partly due to peoples ignorance of his sexuality. Warhol designed cover art for the Velvet Underground, a band he greatly encouraged at the early stage of their career, and the Rolling Stones. He also knew Bob Dylan and John Lennon.
Warhol is most renown for his simple paintings which depicted subjects that had previously been out of the bounds of art, as such as his Campbell's Soup Can work. These challenged and stretched the meaning of art at the time.
Andy Warhol was both influenced by, and influenced a number of other avante-garde artists and musicians, and this makes him a very interesting person to explore.
