Best Male Singer, ever?

May 31st 2008 12:42
Looking on the internet for topics to write about I came across something very interesting. Most "lists" or "best of thingys" much of the same title as above, best male singer in the world all generally have the same man at the top.

Mr Robert Anthony Plant. Of course lead singer of Led Zeppelin and who also forged a pretty decent solo career - performing with the great Jimmy Page.

Jimmy and Robert

Now this got me thinking why? So I dutifully got out my Led Zeppelin collection, which mainly consists of Led Zeppelin IV (yes I to love Stairway to Heaven) and Physical Graffiti (Kashmir - a very good song to).

Led Zeppelin IV

It didn't take me long to work out why. Robert Plants voice is amazing. He can howl he can sing and hold a tune. As with my previous posts I like a singer to make me believe in what they are singing about. Its, all to me, about the passion. Robert certainly delivers.

Then I thought, well ok. who else is one these lists and why should they be? I came across Tim Buckley a few times as with Jim Morrison of The Doors, of course Elvis, Bon Scott of AC/DC and John Foggerty.

Only one put Freddie Mercury of Queen at the top, John Lennon got to number three at the highest.

The funny thing was that there was really no recent singers on these lists. Except maybe Axle Rose of Guns and Roses and Kurt Cobain of Nirvana.

So, therefore here is MY list of male singers in a rock band who I think are pretty good...

Top 10.
1. Robert Plant
2. David Bowie
3. Ian Curtis
4. Bon Scott
Ian Curtis
3. Joy Divisions Ian Curtis

5. Thom Yorke
6. Peter Gabriel
7. Jello Biafra
8. Morrissey
9. Richard Ashcroft
10. Mark Oliver Everett

Now, remember with this list I am thinking about the singer, their voice and how listening to them effects me. Bit of a variety but I am not going to put someone up on my list if I have not heard them or they do nothing for me when I listen to them. They are all powerful entertainers and on quite a few, including Mr Plant I have been lucky enough to see live.... very good. lol.

What would be your list?

My top two favorite albums

It will be an argument that will rage for decades to come, what is the best album of all time? Every has their staple artists or albums that they will always say that is the best. But if course that is everyones opinion.

There is always one or two albums in your collection that you listen to religiously. The ones where you can listen to them over and over again, from start to finish and never tire from it

Moving on from my rant yesterday I bought a new CD last night. The third album by Danish punk band Horrorpops.
The Album is called Kiss Kiss Kill Kill and I have to admit, I LOVE IT! Unlike most reveiews I read of their first two major released albums (Hell Yeah and Bring it on! <-- my favorite) I thought that Bring It On! was a far better album than the first Hell Yeah. But Kiss Kiss Kill Kill beats both.

"Thats not punk rock" "You dont know what punk rock is these days, nothing beats The Clash" "The Clash arent punk rock, Social Distortion are punk rock"

There is punk, pop punk, screamo punk, goth punk, grunge punk, punk rock, ska punk, rockabilly punk rock, phsycobilly punk, post punk... just to name a few. So what is punk? What does punk mean to people
