Global Warming

January 31st 2007 23:25
Or None Like it Hot!!!

Global Warming may just be an excuse to argue about God in America, and some of you in the UK are probably secretly hoping it will happen

but in Australia it's actually really important. Global warming is going to raise the temperature and sea level whilst lowering rainfall.

Australia is already hot enough, we built all our capital cities on the coast and we barely get rainfall as it is.

Although, there are people in worse situations. The Glaciers of Greenland have almost reached the point of no return as far as melting is concerned, Holland will soon lose the majority of its territory to the ocean, and Venice, oh you better believe you're fucked.

And it seems that large scale solutions to the problem are a long way off. The big Businesses care nothing for the environment, only profits. So it's up to us as consumers to change things.

First thing I want to say - if you live in the City, you have no damn excuse for driving a 4wd, for that price you could get a nice hybrid (petrol electric) car that uses a quarter the petrol. Or if you're cheap just buy a small car.

Secondly, don't drive everywhere. Don't be lazy, walk to the local shops, or buy a bike and ride there.

What else is there?? It'd be impossible to cover everything, because we simply need to cut down on our energy use in all areas, don't leave the air conditioner or heater running unless you really need to, install a solar panel on top of your house, spend that little bit extra to get a fridge that uses less energy, anything you can.

Oh, and go see 'An Inconvenient truth' by Al Gore

peace

Big Day Out 07

January 29th 2007 04:50
I didn't get a chance to go to it. And by that I mean I didn't have money for a ticket. Anyone here go? What was it like?

Oh, and ya know the whole flag banning fiasco?? That was created entirely by the media and politicians... The fuckers changed what the BDO people said, from "we would appreciate it if people didn't bring flags" to "we will not allow people to bring flags

Dj Peril

January 24th 2007 11:06
I was recently given a promo cd for Rock Ya Baby, an upcoming release by Dj Peril (whoever he is)

Now, I'm not much a fan of rap, besides some early stuff when it was still closely linked to funk, but I had a listen to this song anyway

Lou Reed

Hey everyone, I feel the need to brag. I'm going to see Lou Reed live in concert tonight. It should be awesome, although it's a pity i couldn't have seen him some years ago as part of Velvet Underground. Ahh well, I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Apple

January 17th 2007 07:36
well, i got a shiny new apple yesterday, and am so glad to be away from Windows, and anything related.

Oh the operating system makes so much more sense than windows, it has much better programs (and can use any windows programs anyway) and is about a billion times faster - although that is partially due to it being newer.

Dead Poet's Society

... Is a surprisingly good movie.

I mean, when you have it described to you it sounds boring - a bunch of prep school students find a love of poetry and form a secret society dedicated to it.

First of all, happy New Year everyone (except maybe the Chinese - I have no idea when Chinese New Year is this year)

I hope you all enjoyed your night, and are enjoying your hangovers. Anyone with a good New Years resolution - leave it as a comment with guess as to how long it will last.
