Best of Bowie

July 31st 2006 06:09
So I'm sitting here on my computer, looking down with a heart filled with sadness, at my 'Best of Bowie' cd case, wondering "where the hell is the cd?"

I mean, I can find disc two, but in this case, who cares. Sure, it has 'Under Pressure' ft Queen and 'Dancing in the Street' (I don't know who sung the original of that song, but this version is actually good) ft Mick Jagger (from the Rolling Stones), but compare that to the orgasmically good first cd

I couldn't find you samples of the version that I have (its either from Australia or England, who knows) but here is a version with a very similar track list.

Speaking of tracklist, cd 1 from my verion, contains

2 The Man Who Sold the World (cover of a Meat Puppets song also covered by Nirvana, if I'm not mistaken)
3 Oh! You Pretty Thing
4 Changes
5 Life on Mars?
6 Starman
7 Ziggy Stardust
8 Suffragette City
9 John, I'm only Dancing
10 The Jean Genie
Anyone seeing how good a cd this is?? Maybe I'll download it, I mean, I've already paid for it.

Battle of the Cashed up Cults II

July 27th 2006 06:47
Before I get on to Hillsong, there's one thing I forgot about Scientology. It's called the "Silent Birth" as the name implies, it involves being silent whilst being born, and whilst giving birth. No screaming, crying, swearing at whoever knocked you up. You must be a good little girl and do everything a male says...

Now, on to Hillsong Church

Watching SBS World news today, it suddenly occured to me, maybe when America installed the current government, they blundered as badly (for the White House) as when they aided Sadam's rise to power.

The Prime Minister, Ibrahim Al-Jaafari, stood up to America on two issues; The conflict between Israel and Jordan/Hezbollah and a peaceful solution to the counter-revolution in Iraq.

Battle of the Cashed-up Cults

Before anyone can beat me to it, no, this post is hardly original. The Chaser program actually did this first.

The Chaser's two cults were 'Scientology' and 'Hillsong'

Billy Bragg

English folk singer, working class man and politcal protestor, Billy Bragg, surely deserves a mention.

'New England' is one of his greatest songs, fast paced and rythmic, with great lyrics concerning the state of England at the time. Deffinately give that a listen

MTV Get Off the Air

First of all, looking at the 10 Google ads I can see, 2 are for country music, 2 for techno and 2 for hip hop. Nice and relevant. Whilst I'm on the topic, sorry everyone for the mass of ads that are around nowadays - it wasn't my idea.

That aside. Todays post is a song of the day type of thing,

New Albums

July 20th 2006 00:58
There's some pretty albums out recently. Decemberunderground by AFI is a good showcase of the band, full of loud and fast guitar and singing. Although, after a quick listen through I didn't find any particular songs that spoke to me, or were vastly different, but meh, I only listened to the first half of each song so who knows.

Virgin Festival

July 18th 2006 07:03
As much as it annoys me, advertising something that is essentially a heartless corporation pretending to give a damn about music to sell their crappy mobiles, the Virgin Festival has traditionally only been held in the USA, but this year is also holding a more minor show in Canada.

The US show, on the 23rd has the bands

Vote for your Favourite Albums

July 13th 2006 02:15
As with yesterday's blog, the title pretty much speaks for itself. Vote (in a comment - there's no official voting thing) for your favourite albums. You have to number them from 1 - 10, with the 1st getting 10 points, the 2nd getting 9 and so on. The albums can be either LP's or EP's, but no singles please

The aim is to keep going until we have 50 different bands rated, but if that happens really quickly, then we'll keep going to 100.

Cops Make Good Targets

July 10th 2006 22:32
This album name, and occasional catch phrase is certainly the motto of many Punk bands, from (on the album) Police Truck by the Dead Kennedys, Police Story by Black Flag and Fuck Police Brutality by Anti Flag, all of which are criticisms of the prevelant racism and violence in the police systems, to Follow the Cops Back Home, which is more of an attack on the indiviual police by Placebo, there are a wide range of criticisms against, one of Punk's major enemies.

Got no clue what I'm talking about? Go HERE to listen to previews of each song from 'Cops Make Good Targets'

World Cup Soccer

July 9th 2006 20:35
I woke up at 4 this morning to watch the soccer, and yet now its penalty shootouts and I'm writing this, paying scant attention to the tv, does anyone else here not care who wins anymore?

The only thing I'm worried about is, what happen with Zidane? About 10 minutes left of his career, and he does something completely out of character. Why did he headbut the guy?

Machine Gun Fellatio

July 7th 2006 06:24
This is a tribute to a great Australian band that, despite the talent and groove of its members, fell apart for pretty much no reason in 2005.

The band isn't just part of one genre, they played alternative, dance, funk and electronica mostly.

Well, I'm sure you all already knew that, but the Supreme Court finally pointed out to Bush that it violates, US and international law, as well as the Geneva Convention on Human Rights. The articles the US allegedly broke in Guantánamo Bay include:

(Article 13): "Prisoners of war must at all times be humanely treated

I'd never heard of this band until a few minutes ago, but any punk band whose members average to be 60 something deffiantely deserve a bit of kudos.
