Punk Quizes

June 30th 2006 08:13
This first one is based around some apparently well known game, 6 degrees of seperation. 5 artists or other keywords are worked into a sentence and you have to guess the 6th.

This one is good for modern Punk fans - Me First And The Gimme Gimmes and Pennywise for example. I didn't have a go because I'd get an embaresingly low score

Ps. Check out my post from a few days ago about the Jamison High band comp in the Blue Mountains (If you live near there)

No Doubt

June 29th 2006 03:04
I'm going to start this by saying "why Gwen Stefani? Why?" she had an ok pop punk/ska band going, and then she decided to also release solo skank pop (yes, it's plenty a real genre) I mean, have any of you heard her butcher 'These Boots are Made for Walking', by Nancy Sinatra? Or even worse, have you seen the video clip?? honestly, either make a video clip, or make porn - trying to mix them just doesn't work.

Anyhoo, No Doubt formed in 1986, and originally only had a keyboardist and 2 singers. I have no idea what their music sounded like at this stage, but it was probably alot better then their recent stuff. A lot more unique at least due to the general lack of instruments.

Chingon

June 28th 2006 10:56
Hooray for getting off topic more then usual. Chingon are a mexican rock band created by Robert Rodreiguez for his series of Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Desperado, El Mariachi.

The band has also had a song in the Kill Bill 2 soundtrack, Malagueña Salerosa which is a pretty aweome song.

No, there aren't any actual clips here, just me rambling about them.

RATM video clips are all pretty damn funny. Guerilla Radio tells a story about aliens with a fiendish plot to rig the 200 American election by entering clones, by the name of George Bush and Al Gore. I'm just going to claim that the cheesy metal wearing aliens are intended as satire of 1960's scifi movies, and not just shoddiness.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

June 16th 2006 07:40
First of all, for those of you who think that the Chili Willies don't resemble punk at all, you're probably basing that on their recent albums, and the fans that only like those.

Their first 3 albums, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Freaky Styley and Uplift Mofo Party Plan contain a punk energy, and a rap style of singing that reminds me of Rage Against the Machine.

Nirvana

June 15th 2006 01:16
I haven't done a band review in ages, so I give you, Nirvana - underground grunge rockers and suddenly popular in the mainstream, a popularity which maintained even after Kurt Cobain's suicide.

Alas, Cobain is another famous artist that died due to a heroin addiction, the psychological effect more then the physical ones in this case

This post may have been better a week or so ago, but who cares.

Held in Luna Park – in middle of Sydney, and some sideshows, this show went over the Sat and Sun of the long weekend.

Privacy on Myspace

June 8th 2006 23:47
The National Security Agency in the Pentagon has thought of a great new way to catch scapegoat terrorists. That's right, mass searches of private details provided on sites such as Myspace.

So a friendly piece of advice, if myspace asks you for your religion, but 'conservative Christian', if it asks you for your hobbies, do not put 'Revolution' and if it asks you if you have a beard and wear a turban, ou might be safer to say no

Punk Song Topics

Out of sheer curiousity, I'm going to look at the type of songs sung by Punk bands, and how many of each there are in the section of my music collection I can bother looking through.

Welcome to the world of deceptive post titles, this has nothing to do with Pandora's Box (an Ancient Greek Myth told of a box that, when open, pretty much loosed all kinds of mayhem and destruction). It is more to do with

Revolutions part 2

June 6th 2006 06:58
As Leon pointed out yesterday, I haven't mentioned punk enough lately. So I'll make up for it here if I have to start quoting the song 'Punk is Dead' by Crass

So, as I was saying yesterday, a revolution isn't all that hard to achieve, but the catch is, a violent revolution is the quickest and easiest way to overthrow a government. How can any Punk criticise a violent government and then support a violent revolution?

Revolution Betrayed

June 5th 2006 07:01
As much as it sounds like it, Revolution Betrayed isn't the name of an awesome band. Note to self, start a band, just so I can name it that. Anyhoo, Because I couldn't think of anything better to write about, and because I've spent the day listening to a lecturer who seemed to be plotting a 'coup d'etat' against the Australian government. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for coup d'etat, but this guy gave me the impression that he would be an even worse and more violent ruler then Howard.

So I dedicate this post to all the well meaning revolts that ended badly.

Rammstein

June 2nd 2006 03:20
Formed in East Berlin in 1994, Rammstein were no doubt affected greatly by the Berlin Wall, and its destruction in 1989. Out of this they developed a mistrust of Capitalism, especially in the commercialised American system. That is not to say that they support Stalinism, or any other offshoot of Communism. They were once accused of Nazi sympathies, but these have no apparent basis in fact; the cover of their album, ‘Herzeleid’, features the band topless, and because all of the members are German, they are accused of portraying the German people as a ‘Master Race’ can we grow up please?

Emo Music

June 1st 2006 00:49
Second part of my Emo post, mostly because I started rambling last time and couldn't shut myself up. Well, this post is going to be less positive, because While Emo culture has some great points to match the bad ones, the same can't really be said for the music. (by the way, I'm talking about modern Emo, as I know almost nothing about the 80's Emo and 90's Indie-Emo.)

Where to start
